Sam Houston State

Sam Houston State University has a great deal to offer a prospective
student-athlete. Academically, the university offers a wide range of
degree opportunities with 86 Undergraduate Programs, 54 Graduate Programs
and 4 Doctoral Degree Programs in Criminal Justice, Forensic Psychology,
Criminal Psychology, and Educational Leadership. With an enrollment of
around 13,000 annually, the small university setting is ideal for
individualized learning. The student-teacher ratio is a very commendable
22 to 1. Additionally, the community of Huntsville is centrally located
only one hour by car from Houston and two and a half hours from Dallas and
Austin. The community population of 40,000 provides a unique college town
atmosphere.

Along with our outstanding academic reputation, Sam Houston State has some
of the best athletic programs and facilities in the State. As a member of
the NCAA Division I Southland Conference, Sam Houston's Track & Field
teams are among the most respected in Texas because of the consistent
level of improvement and "over achievement" of the athletes in the program
on a yearly basis. The full Track & Field support staff, including
athletic academic enhancement counselors, learning enhancement center,
athletic trainers, strength development, physical therapy and
rehabilitative capabilities, ensures that all athletes receive the
individual attention they need.

The Bowers Stadium Track and the York Field Events Center rank as one of
the best track and field facilities in Texas. The facility annually hosts
the York Relays and the Region III High School Championships, in addition
to serving as frequent host to the Southland Conference Championships and
other track competitions.

Sam Houston State has made a commitment to becoming the best track team in
the Southland Conference. The past five years have seen the program make
meteoric rises to the top of the conference, narrowly missing out on
conference titles each time.
