Heard Around the Track
June 22, 2001
Ridley grad and NCAA All-American Jim Koster has left his position after 16 years as head
coach at Coastal Carolina
During his tenure, Koster's teams won Big South titles, more than a dozen top three team finishes, over 100 All-Conference athletes, including
numerous individual champions. He oversaw the designing and construction of a world class track and field facility, and founded
an officials' association. Koster won the 3200 as a senior, and went on to finish as the 25th top American at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships in 1973, the last year it was won by Steve Prefontaine.
Koster's future plans were unclear.
