Heard Around the Track
Sherwood-Zimmerman-Ryncavage 1-2-3
in US Javelin and Abney #1 in 400 Hurdles.

Darden and Abney at the PA State Championships. Ryncavage
and Zimmerman also get top five US rankings for the 2002 Outdoor
Season.
All in all, PA made a great showing in the 2002 Outdoor season,
landing two athletes as top of their respective events in
the Dyestat Elite Rankings, and grabbing top five spots with
six individuals and two relays.
The surprise to the country must have been the one-two-three
sweep in the Javelin by McDowell's Ryan Sherwood (229-01),
Warwick's Brad Zimmerman (222-03) and Coughlin's Justin
Ryncavage (216-02). And with her USATF Junior National
Championships performance, Merion Mercy's Tiffany Abney
vaulted to the top of the 400 Hurdles list with a 58.11. Abney
also is 5th in 300 Hurdles (42.01) and 9th in the 400 with
her 53.79.
Also getting top five rankings were Courtney Clark,
Norristown, 2nd in the 400 Hurdles with a 59.76 (6th in the
300 Hurdles with a 42.21); and Dominique Darden, Harrisburg,
5th in the 100 Hurdles with her 13.64+2.3. Darden was
also 13th in the 200 with her 23.80; and Sam Bair,
Shaler, 4th in the 800 with a 1:50.4. He was 11th in the Mile
with a converted 1600 time of 4:11.11.
In the Relays, North Penn was the dominant PA Boys'
team by far, finishing 2nd in the country with a 7:41.32 4x800,
a 10th ranked (Penn Relays Championship) DMR of 10:17.47,
and a 21st ranked Sprint Medley of 3:33.3. Warwick garnered
1th in the 4x800 (7:48.53), Strath Haven 17th (7:50.68), and
William Tennent 20th (7:50.94).
And you guessed it, as William Penn's girls once again
competed on a national level, finishing with three relays
in the top 10 nationally. Their 3:42.81 4x400 is the 5th best;
while their 4:02.21 Sprint Medley is 7th and their 1:38.59
4x100 is 9th.
