PennTrackXC
is a volunteer website run for the benefit
of the high school athletes of PA. Because we do not
receive any funding assistance, we only have limited
time to dedicate to this site. In order to 'catch
up' with a backlog of results, stories and photos
we have accumulated from prior seasons, we will be
focusing much of our energy during Indoor 2002 on
that task. What this means is that we will continue
to provide basic coverage of PA results, such as those
below, plus limited in-person coverage of select meets.

December 22, 2001 - TFCAGP Division I @ Lehigh University
- Steve Meyers, Conestoga,
unleashed another mid 50's shot, going 55-7-1/4. In the Triple
Jump, Norristown's Mike Whitehead goes 45-3-1/4. Other performances
of note came from the Abington 4x400 squad of Cowin Mills,
Ryan Rutherford, Jon Martin, and Lester Ceasar, who won in
3:31.1. And in the 3000, Adam Breisch of Quakertown held off
O'Hara's Joe Francisco, winning by .1 in 9:05.5.

December 22, 2001 - TFCAGP Division II @ Lehigh University
- At
the next to last meet of 2001, Steve Nichols of Penncrest
set a new meet record in the 60 meter hurdles, going 8.2,
improving on the old record by. The
Strath Haven quartet of Connell Carruthers, Andrew Combs,
Andrew Eberly and Matt Long hit a good December stride, going
8:14.2 to take the 4x800. Jim Dempsey of Wissahickon
showed he hasn't lost his leap, going 6-6 in the High Jump.
In the Triple Jump, Blake Taylor, Methacton, extended to 44-7,
just 5.5" up on Great Valley's Galen Rivers, who took
second at 44-1-1/2. And in the Long Jump, Nehemiah Leary,
Upper Dublin, went 21-11-1/2. Complete results

December 21, 2001 - DVGTCA
@ Lehigh University - William Penn took two of the three
relay events, taking the 4x800 in 9:39.3 (Radnor 9:53.9, Pennsbury
9:54.1), and the 4x200 in 1:47.7. West Catholic captured the
4x400 in 4:05.5. West Catholic's Nicole Leach also added a
win in the 400 with her 58.7. Courtney Clark, Norristown,
went 8.3 in prelims, and 8.4 in the finals of the 55 meter
hurdles. Wissahickon's Krista Simkins got the nod over Chester's
Crystal Conquest over 300 yards, although both were timed
in 37.7. Danielle Siebert, CB West, with a 2:49.0, was .1
better than Prendergast's Nicole O'Dea in the 1000 yards.
In the field events, Caitlin Redding, Penncrest, high-jumped
5-4, while Lateefah Vaughn, of William Penn (Delaware) threw

December 19, 2001 - Philadelphia Catholic
League Boys' Meet #1 @ Haverford College - In
the first PCL Boys' meet, sprinters Boston, of McDevitt, and
Heygood of O'Hara pushed to a strong opening competition,
going 6.9 and 7.0, respectively. O'Hara's Joe Francisco nipped
LaSalle's Tim Ferrie by half a second, going 2:02.12 in the
800. Carroll's Stovall jong jumped 21-1 to win by 10".

Wednesday,
December 18, 2001 - Philadelphia Catholic League Girls' Meet
#1 @ Haverford College - In
the first PCL girls' meet of the season, Jess Storace of Archbishop
Ryan, got the nod in a close 60 meter race with West Catholic's
Tiffany Bradley, both clocked in 7.7. But Bradley took the
200 by .1 with her 26.3 over O'Hara's Karon Lugay and her
own teammate, Nicole Leach. Amy Kelly, St. Hubert's, doubled
in the Mile and 800, taking both with times of 5:31.3 and
2:28.8. O'Hara took two relays, winning the 4x200 in 1:49.5
and the 4x800 in 10:25.1. Complete

December 15, 2001 - TFCAGP Division II @ Haverford College
- Lower Moreland's Mark Mullelly was
anxious to hit the track, and showed his enthusiasm by running
a 9:03.4 3000 in only the second meet of the season. The effort
bettered Upper Merion's Mark Daniel's 9:11.6 meet reccord
from 2001. Ryan Westerman Lower Merion
went 21-09.25 to take the Long Jump. And Great Valley's Ted
Segal tied a meet record with an 8.4 in the 60 meter hurdles.

December 15, 2001 - TFCAGP Division I @ Haverford College
- The Glen Mills Shot Put tradition
is re-emerging this season in the person of Oman Gullett,
who won by almost TEN FEET with a throw of 55-2 3/4.
Abington's Lester Caesar broke the meet record of Simon Gratz's
Terrance Day, by going 49.7 in the 400. Troy Roberson, William
Tennent, took the 200 in 22.7. John Fudge, Simon Gratz, Marvis
Polk, Glen Mills, and Adam Woodford, Downingtown, went 1-2-3
in 8.3, 8.4 and 8.4 respectively in a very fast 60 meter hurdles.

December 15, 2001 - Bishop Loughlin Games, The Armory, NYC
- The William Penn girls walked away 3rd place in the
team standings at the Armory in NYC after some strong individual
performances, and a team title in the 4x200, winning it in
1:43.64. Juanita Broaddus took 2nd in two races, going 7:07
in the 55 meter dash, 39.47 in the 300 meters. Penn Wood's
Danielle Rodgers was 3rd in the 600 at 39.56.. In the 600
meter run, Broaddus' teammate Christina Smith was 2nd in 1:32.90,
while Kandis Worthington was 7th in 1:36.60. In their other
relay, William Penn took 5th in the 4x400 in 4:03.66. And
in the 55 meter hurdles, William Penn's Tyeshia Thomas was
6th with an 8.62. Other performances included Madonna Patterson
of William Penn, taking 3rd in the 1000 meter run in 3:02.99.
Archbishop Prendergast was 5th in the 4x800 with a 9:53.96.
Nazareth Academy's Jennifer O'Connor was 13th in the mile

December 8, 2001 - TFCAGP Division II @ Haverford College
- At the first Division II (small schools) meet for boys,
the Great Valley team of Patchak, Franczuszki, Barnum and
Zeng ran the fastest DMR between the two divisions, going

December 8, 2001 - TFCAGP Division I @ Haverford College -
At the first Division I (large schools) meet for boys,
notable performances included Eric Alexander of Glen Mills
in the 60 Meter Hurdles, with an 8.3, the 4x400 William Tennent
quartet of Troy Roberson, Matt Mark, John Sarge, and Mike
Donnelly, who went 3:29.4, and the Shot Put effort of Conestoga's
Steve Myers, winning by over three feet with a toss of 54-0.

7, 2001 - DVGTCA @ Kutztown University - The girls hit
the track for their second meet of the season and two athletes
of the circuit ran some eye-popping times. Penn Wood's Danielle
Rodgers took the 600 yard run in 1:23.7, while the second
place finisher, Rebecca Powell of Pennsbury, ran a fast 1:28.7.
Simon Gratz taking the 4x200 over William Penn with a 1:48.4,
and Jess Johnson of North Penn, winning the Shot with a throw
of 42-01. Other notable performances included Madonna Patterson
of William Penn, who won the 1000 yards by over seven seconds
in 2:52.7; and William Penn's Tyeshia Thomas winning the 55
Hurdles in 8.70. Complete Results

Friday November
30, 2001 - DVGTCA @ Lehigh University - Jessica Cickay,
who qualified for the November 8, 2001 Foot Locker Championships
in Orlando, apparently couldn't wait to race again. Fortunately
she found one, and used it as a nice warmup for next weekend.
The race was Friday night at Lehigh University at the first
indoor meet by the Delaware Valley Girls Track Coaches Association
meet. Cickay ran the 3000, winning comfortably in 10:25.4.
West Catholic's Tiffany Bradley took the 300 yards in 36.9.
William Penn's Christina Smith cruised to a 59.1 400. In the
4x200, the William Penn team of Juanita Broaddus, Candis Worthington,
Jeanette Rice, and Smith ran a good early season time of 1:46.0.
And in the 55 meter hurdles, Academy Park's Precious George
won the season's first event in 8.5 seconds. Complete Results
