A tenth of a second is as close as it gets in a hand-timed meet,
but it was good enough for the Great Valley Sprint Medley
squad as they went 3:45.2 to set a new meet record. Upper Dublin
posted a 8:25.5 4x800 to win easily. St. John Neumann's Rich McNichols
posted a pair of 7.4's to take the trials and finals in the 60 meter

Meet #2

record in the DMR. It was over 13 minutes. Well, they shattered
it, going 12:42.2 with the squad of Anne Baker, Nicole Murphy,
Caitlin Klaas, and Janine Ricci. William Penn
worked in junior Shantia Byrd to the mix with the top 4x400,
and she delivered, splitting :63 to help Christina Smith,
Kandis Worthington, and Juanita Broaddus to 4:00.4
for a good start for the season. West Catholic's 1:45.8 by
Tanisha Cortes, Latavia Thomas, Alecia Jackson
and Nicole Leach took first, but they were pushed by Simon
Gratz, which finished in 1:47.6. Juanita Broaddus tried
the 55 Hurdles for the first time, and it was with somewhat predictable
results, getting the top spot in 8.4. Boyertown sophomore Natalie

DVGTCA
Meet #1 @ Lehigh University - William Penn's Juanita
Broaddus and Christina Smith must have been ready
for XC to end, because their first effort at the oval was stellar.
Picking up where they left off, Broaddus and Smith started their
senior campaigns in better-than-early season form, each taking two
events. Smith took the 55 hurdles in a fast 8.4 (8.3 in the trials),
and the 400 on cruise in 59.4. Broaddus captured both the 55 (7.1)
and the 200 (25.8). A few others were also off to very strong starts,
especially Janine Ricci of Hatboro-Horsham, who decided to
get right onto the track and post a powerful 10:34.7 in the 3000,
winning by almost 50 seconds. Simon Gratz junior Angela Wells
went 18-01.75 to win the Long Jump. The Cardinal O'Hara and
North Penn 4x800's pushed each other to nice early season
times, with the PCL squad picking up the win by 4.7 seconds, going
9:50.8. West Catholic took the 4x400 in 4:04.7. Also noteworthy
were the performances of Nicole Leach, West Catholic, who
went 1:23.2 for 600 yards, and Pilar Batts, Archbishop Prendergast,
who ran 38.0 for 300 yards. Results
