District Championships

Friday Action:
1A District 3 - Bedell is boys champ, IRC boys team victors. Kotchman is girls champ, Berkley girls win three way team battle with IRC and Holy Names.
4A District 5 - Gapstur with big 18:39 performance wins title, while Spanish River girls produce 7 elite performances for impressive team win! JP Cook leads Martin County boys to district title.
4A District 8 - Griffith wins, Sunset boys over Columbus 88-88. Cardenas wins big 18:57, Braddock girls win.
Expecting: 1A-7.
Thursday Action:
1A District 2 - Providence boys over Episcopal by 3 points; Oak Hall 4 points over Epsicopal girls, DeBenedet is back: 19:35.
2A District 5 - K-Lyons wins, Jesuit boys 7-pack for win. Woznicki is champ, CCC girls squeak out win over Lake Wales.
2A District 8 - Gulliver over Belen 27-28! Gulliver's Sharkey wins in CR 16:00; Martin returns from injury, finishes 8th! Lourdes girls win easily 2-3-5-6-8; 7th grade Jillian Gill sets CR 19:44 on slow course.
3A District 5 - Largo girls win behind Hall-Drugash combo. Timing hardware problems plague meet. Boys results yet to come.
4A District 4 - Federenko wins, Bloomingdale boys upset Leto with 6th man! 4 freshmen girls in top 7. Quick wins in 18:41, Forrester 19:00, Hall 19:11. Sarasota Riverview girls take team title.
4A District 7 - Calzada wins with big PR of 15:55. Ramos wins girls title. Miami Central dominates both races.
Expecting: 1A-6, 4A-6.
Wednesday Action:
3A District 8 - St. Thomas Aquinas boys and girls dominate.
Vicky Gill has been a pleasant surprise for Florida State. The Scottish import has dominated since
stepping onto the American scene. On Saturday, she finished in second place with 20:18 for 6K at the
ACC Conference Championships. FSU's girls finished sixth in the meet. In the same race, recent Episcopal
grad Kara Scanlin finished in 7th place. The University of Virgina freshman has been off to an awesome
start to her college career.
FSU's men finished in 5th place. Their number one runner, Joep Tigchelaar, took seventh place with 24:48 for 8K.

Florida Rankings Week #9 [ Boys | Girls ] Boys: 1A, 4A -- Girls: 2A, 4A ---- Last Updated: 11/05/2002 1832Z
Oviedo's Jenny Barringer not only took over the Florida lead for the best girls 5K time of the year, but she also
broke into the 17s for the first time in her career! The junior won the Seminole Athletic Conference championship in 17:58.4.
Jessica Zabel was second in the race. Zabel's time of 18:56 also moved her into the season top ten--she now holds 9th position honors.

Elly Kabboord celebrated her Halloween tonight by winning her third strait Cape Coast Conference title. Her
time of 19:13 was over a minute in front of her next competitor. Alex Stewart, meanwhile, won his second CCC title
with a time of 16:00 for the 5K--25 seconds in front of his teammate Lief Thomason. Kabboord of Cocoa Beach and Stewart
of Satellite each lead their respective girls and boys teams to conference titles as well.
Ideal conditions aided an already quick Taylor Park course to produce some fantastic times!
Melissa Kotchman had her best time of the year, winning in 18:41. Her team finished in a close battle for
third, one point behind Shorecrest. Berkley Prep took home the girls team title. Indian Rocks Christian finished 10 points
in front of Keswick Christian to win the boys team title with an impressive 24 points. IRC was anchored by the first plcae
finish of Nathan Holden (16:14).

Amanda Quick took the title in 19:26 over second and third place Sara Hall and Jessica Forrester.
On the guys side Phillip Watson took home the boys championship over Josh Salas of Leto. Tampa Jesuit withheld its "A" team
from the meet.

The Steak n' Shake track invitational will be held at USF in Tampa on March 1, 2003. The first year event already has some big hopes and big funding--two ingridients that could make for a classic!

Stephanie Amerman and Jeff Masterson took home the individual titles, Gulf and Mitchell took home the team trophies,
and parent Linda Jacobsen took the pictures! Check out the great shots from the exciting conference battle!

Titusville Astronaut swept both varsity titles in the ten-team meet hosted by Cocoa High School. Brian McLellan of Deletona won the boys race in 17:09, while Christina Martin of Cocoa won the girls race in 22:20.

Our new college affiliate (to officially launch in December) interviewed Floridian Tiffany Ross of the University of
South Carolina. Last year as a freshman Ross provided a huge boost, helping the Lady Gamecocks win their first
ever national championship.

Hassen Does It Again
Or is this the first time? I don't know but Hassen pulled off an impressive Deja Vu victory with a 15:04 three
mile win on the tough FCCJ course--just 11 seconds off the course record. This race was run at the old state
course, which very few currently running can remember. Leary took second, with Biladeau, Thiele, and Deak following.
