Current world record holder, Milton High School senior Jamie Chandler, destroyed her own world record and became the first woman to go under 8 minutes for the Burrito Mile by eating her 1.1 pound Joey Bag burrito from Moe's in an amazing 1:21.9 (yes a minute twenty-one, point-nine!) and then ripped off a 5:59.8 mile, (full mile, 1609 meters) to record a new world record of 7:21.7.

Jamie received her burrito from Allie Amos, the anchor leg (and fastest
female leg) of her intersquad relay team (Green Team) and began to eat almost a full minute ahead of Ryan Price as their anchor leg, Meredith Naylor delivered Ryan's burrito from the Dream Team.  Ryan looked to be savoring his burrito while Jamie was intent on getting the entire burrito down in as little time as possible and did just that.

On-lookers were stunned when Jamie left the table just after one minute and 20 seconds (1:21.9 to be exact) and began to hammer her mile. She was on 5:40 mile pace for over 700 meters but then began to slow.

Ryan on the other hand, ate as good as he could and started his mile after eating his burrito in almost 3 and a half minutes.  Although being a full 2 laps behind, Ryan ran strong until his burrito decided to make a second appearance and thus slowed Ryan a bit.

Jamie continued strong, also slowing but saved the best for last, and using her famous strong kick, brought her mile home in sub-6 minutes (5:59.8) to destroy her own world record by a full 50 seconds!!

Ryan eventually finished and went straight to the trash can to purge himself.

This was the 3rd edition of the relay and burrito mile hosted by Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, and every year a world record has been broken.  Milton athletes also have the distinction of having the first male to break 7 minutes (Christian Scholz in 2007) and the first female to break 8 minutes (Jamie Chandler in 2009)

Team Chickentop shaved over 3 minutes off of the previous world record of 33:25 in the all-female 4x8urrito relay at the third annual Bethesda Burrito Mile event in Bethesda, Maryland yesterday. The team of four girls from Walter Johnson High School worked together to consume 4 burritos and cover 3200 meters in 29 minutes and 22 seconds.

Burritolympic events continue to grow in popularity in the Maryland area as hundreds of participants and spectators showed up for what was probably the largest burrito mile event ever.  Meet organizers estimate that over $3,000 was raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for the second consecutive year.

Participants continued to show their creativity and sense of humor by dressing up with various costumes and accessories.  Tiffany Lin, Camielle Bouvet, Jennifer Spencer, and Jenna Willett of Team Chickentop made their assault on the record books disguised as various superheroes.  Among the fan favorites this year were the boys from Poolesville High School who dressed up in sporty suits, ties, and vests for a finer burrito dining experience. The Poolesville boys made the most of their speed eating experience by arriving fully prepared with a tablecloth, candles, sparkling cider, plates, forks and knives.

Of course the competitive aspect of the burrito mile was not lost among the serious competitors. Alex Arias, a sophomore from Damascus High School, won the freshman/sophomore race in 9:25, saying afterwards that it was the first race he’d ever won in track. Sean King, a senior from Churchill High School, won the open burrito mile in 6:47, just 32 seconds off of the world record.

Then there came the Elite 2-Burrito Mile. The event had not been contested in two years, and here this weekend only three competitors were brave enough to attempt the gut-busting competition. Andrew Palmer, a junior from Walt Whitman High School was going after the world record set by Cedric Dana at 10:03 in 2007.

Palmer devoured his two burritos rapidly, but not nearly as fast as Cedric Dana had done two years earlier. He finished his two burritos in 5:25, leaving him only 4:38 to tie the record. With a personal record in 4:19 for 1600 meters, Palmer would have been capable of a 4:38 any other time, but with two burritos in his stomach, he ran 4:39 for an overall time of 10:04, 1 second off the world record.

Bethesda Burrito Mile Returns February 21, 2009

What? The Burrito Mile? Yep, that's right folks, your favorite track meet of the winter season (because we all know how boring the Sportsplex is) appears to be right around the corner yet again! This year's event is shaping up to be better than ever, with more burritos, more expected participants, a spiffy t-shirt designed by Alex Willett, and even a new location. Due to construction on Walter Johnson's track, the races will be held at Tilden Middle School, about 3/4 of a mile away from Walter Johnson.  The address is:

11211 Old Georgetown Road

Rockville, Maryland 20852

The middle school is on your right as you go north on Old Georgetown Road. Oh yeah, this event is NOT hosted by Walter Johnson or Tilden.

Once again, the extremely friendly, generous, and just plain awesome folks at Qdoba Mexican Grill are providing 300+ burritos for the event. So like last year, the money for every burrito purchased goes directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, helping to fight various blood cancers.

There will be four events this year, with a tentative time schedule as follows:

Frosh/Soph Race- 12:30 pm

Junior/Senior/Open Race- 1:00 pm

Elite 2-Burrito Race- 1:30

4x8urrito- 2:00

Awards Ceremony- 2:45 pm

Be sure to get there as soon as you can so you can get your burrito and get settled.

And yes, you read that correctly. After a one-year hiatus, the 2-Burrito Elite Race is making a return. On top of that, the word on the street appears to be that the Burrito Mile and Single Person 4x8urrito World Record Holder Andrew Palmer will be taking yet another charge at the record books, this time in the 2-Burrito Elite race. That's right folks, you're in for a show. Also, as a new addition to this year's event, there will be an awards ceremony following all of the races where various awards will be given out for things OTHER than winning (because we all know that winning isn't everything). As a sample,  some awards that will be distributed include Best Dressed (or worst dressed, depending how you look at it) and Slowest Eater. To find out the rest, you're just going to have to show up!

The prices for this year are as follows:

$1 for Bottled Water

$10 for an awesome t-shirt

$10 entry fee (grants you 1 burrito to race with or just eat)

$15 to compete in two races/compete in the elite 2-burrito race

The rules for this year's event are the same as last year. The rules can be found at the following link:

http://burritomile.com/pages/5

Oh yeah, and finally, there are permission slips this year. If you are under 18, you're going to need to turn one of these babies in with your admission fee on race day. You can compete as long as there is a signature under "Parent Signature". There will be extras at the races if you forget yours, though.

So that's about it! I hope to see all of you on the 21st, so come hungry and ready to compete! And in the words of running writer George Sheehan: "It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to stop and puke." (or something like that)

Jamie Chandler, Milton High School girl’s junior track team captain, ate her burrito (1.2 lbs) in 2:03 and then ran a 6:09.9 mile to set a new women’s WR for the Burrito Mile in 8:12.9. The time broke the old record by 9.1 seconds!

It was a clear and dry day, low 70’s and no wind.  Jamie began eating a full 36 seconds ahead of male challenger, junior Mitchell Foley as the inter-squad relay of 400m legs (19 legs) finished as the anchor runners on each of the 2 teams ran with the burrito on their final leg and then delivered the burritos to the consumption zone and the waiting burrathletes.  Mitchell, already starting behind, ate his burrito in 2:18 knowing his superior mile time might be enough to catch Jamie.  As the mile progressed Jamie began to slow and Mitchell was gaining ground with every step! Jamie entered the final stretch with about a 10 second lead and Mitchell bore down but came up just short of catching Jamie and Jamie’s relay team, Team Licious was victorious by a scant 3.2 seconds after 9200 meters (5.75 miles) of racing!  Mitchell’s mile of 5:22.4 was his second fastest mile of his track season but was not enough for his team, Team Squirtel, to be victorious.

Just one year after setting the high school freshman burrito mile world record, and six days after completing the 4x8urrito in a solo effort, Andrew Palmer of Pwn3rs TC claimed the most coveted record of all.  A select group of elite burrathletes arranged a top secret, unadvertised assault on the record books Friday night.  Palmer ate his burrito in 1:30 and ran a 4:45 mile to break the previous world record of 6:37.49 by 22 seconds!  Burritomile.com was on site to ensure proper sanctioning of the meet and confirms that a new world record was set at 6:15.71.

"This is for the US!" Palmer exclaimed after breaking the record.

The Frenchman Alex Prevost was trying to claim the record for France. It marked the first time in burrito mile history that international implications came in to play.  Competing were representatives from the United States, Chile, France, Mexico, and Austria.

Prevost struggled to scarf down his burrito, but Nick Latourette came up big for the French. A non-runner, Latourette devoured his regulation-size Chipotle burrito in 52 seconds before running a 6:50 mile. His time of 7:42 was good for 3rd place.

Dylan Straughan of Chile also had a respectable showing, eating in about 2:32 and running a 4:45 mile for a 2nd place performance in 7:17.83.

Next Burrito Mile: 2/23 in Bethesda, MD

The world-famous Burrito Mile is happening again! This event was born right here in Montgomery County and has been contested in Georgia and Virginia Tech in the past year. This will be by far the biggest Burrito Mile event ever! Best of all, every penny goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help raise money for research and care for children with this disease.

Qdoba is once again being extremely generous and donating the burritos for the event. With several hundred people interested in competing, and hundreds of people expected as spectators, Qdoba will be providing at least 300 burritos to the meet organizers free of charge. This means that 100% of the profit will go to charity.

This event will be at the Walter Johnson High School track in Bethesda, Maryland. This event is not hosted by the school.

PRICES:
$1 for sport drinks
$5 for a t-shirt
$5 to come and watch and eat a burrito
$10 to compete in 1 race (anyone)
$15 to compete in 2 races (only true warriors!)

There will be 4 events this year. Times of each event are estimates. Just show up and choose which event is best for you:

And We're Back

We had some server changes that took down the site for a while.  But Kevin Milsted asked me to get BurritoMile.com back up in time for the next event.

So here it is!  More features will be coming.

Glory Returns to Maryland Burrathletes

WOW! Cedric Dana shatters World Record by over 20 seconds in the Burrito Mile in a time of 6:37.49.

Ian Chow of Team Facial, a team made up entirely of non-runners, chomped down his burrito in an amazing 35 seconds. Ian struggled with the running aspect, however, and Cedric Dana easily caught him after eating his burrito in 55 seconds.

Dana was on the winning 4 x 8urrito, which obliterated the old world record set on June 3 of last year. That record was 21:46 by WJ4×8StateChamps . Today’s winning 4×8urrito BROKE THAT RECORD BY OVER 5:30 in a time of 16:12.

Cedric Dana now owns a Triple Crown, with world records in the 1-burrito mile, the elite 2-burrito mile, and the 4×8urrito.

Veronica Salcido smashed the female world record which was formerly held by Brielle Dana, Cedric Dana’s sister. Salcido’s mark of 8:22 bested the previous record by 1:24.

Maryland showed that they are pros when it comes to pulling this event off. Thanks to event organizer Rafi Moersen, this group from Maryland continues to pioneer the burritolympic games.

Maryland Aims to Take Back World Record

The entire state of Maryland was demoralized when the new comers from Georgia had the audacity to steal the crown they invented: the coveted Burrito Mile World Record. To be sure, they intend to go for pride on June 2, 2007 when they will host a sanctioned Burritolympic meet.

The meet will feature both the Burrito Mile (possibly multiple heats) and the 4×8urrito Relay race. This will be the first day both events have been held at the same meet. The first race will go off at 5PM at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland on June 2. Everyone is invited to attend.

Will a new world record be set? Will the crown return to Maryland? Or possibly will an out-of-stater take part (Virginians are you listening??) and upset both states? We’ll find out!
